Flowery Venus Earrings

Venus figures have been created by humans for eons—long before the word Venus. Most famous is the one found in Willendorf, Astria, but these tiny sculptures have been found from ancient cultures all through what is now Europe and from around the Mediterranean in general.

It’s unclear exactly what they represented to the original artists, but I think of them as acts of gratitude, honor and connection to Mother earth.

As I’ve been cleaning and reorganizing the studio, these triangle bits got pushed up next to another random bit of tin and I saw legs. Even though I’ve had these triangles following me to Maine and back for several years, I hadn't figured out how to use them. Once I saw legs I started playing around with other parts and what emerged reminded me so much of these solitary female figures that humans have been fascinated with for probably as long as we've been on the planet. 

Each piece is hand cut, edges filed and finished smooth and then connected with surgical stainless steel split rings.  A surgical stainless steel ear wire finishes the look.

The finished earrings are approximately 1" (24mm) wide and hang about 2.5" (54mm) from the ear.
